More than 4,000 nutrition experts from around the world are gathering from September 15 - 20 in Granada, Spain as part of the International Congress of Nutrition. The Congress takes place every four years, and this is the first time it is being hosted in Spain.
According to ICN President and Chair, Professor Angel Gil, this year's theme, "Joining Cultures Through Nutrition," was selected in recognition that immigrants from around the world are making Europe their home. Gil notes that immigrant communities "try to continue with their own feeding and lifestyle habits, but at the same time they need to be incorporated to the culture of the host countries." It is for this reason that the slogan linking culture and nutrition was selected.
The Congress will cover eight tracks and offer more than 100 parallel sessions hosted by leading organizations in public, private and civil society sectors. The tracks include:
1- Advances in Nutrition Research
2- Nutrition Through Life Course
3- Public Health Nutrition and Environment
4- Nutrition and Management of Disease
5- Nutrients and Nutritional Assessment
6- Functional Foods and Bioactive Compounds
7- Food Culture Practices and Nutritional Education
8- Agriculture, Food Security and Safety
We will be blogging live from the Congress over the next several days, so stay tuned for more.
